R.E.M are to release 'Accelerate’ a week early via the social networking application iLike.

The full studio album will be available to stream on platforms such as Facebook and iTunes along with a video of the band.

"It was one of those ideas that was presented to us and it seemed like a good one so we ran for it," R.E.M’s frontman Michael Stipe told Billboard.

He added 'I think you can either go with it or sit back and watch it happen, and I would rather be out on the field than in the bleachers,' he said.

'Accelerate’ is formally launched March 31st.

Moby to release 'Alice'

Moby will release Alice on 17th March 2008, the first single to be taken from his new album Last Night out on 31st March 2008.

This futuristic Hip Hop track features Smokey and S.O. Simple of Nigerian hip-hop group 419 Squad and Aynzli.

The fifteen track album was recorded in Moby’s home studio in Manhattan NY and mixed by Dan Grech-Maguerat who has also worked with Radiohead and the Scissor Sisters.

Moby said, 'The song ’Alice’ started with a mistake. There’s this effect that I have, a very old proto-distortion pedal, and I was playing a bassline through it and there was something broken on the distortion pedal and it made this weird but fantastic feedback. So this song starts with this weird bass feedback, which is just a really happy mistake because it wasn't originally supposed to sound like that.

After writing the track I then sent it out to Aynzli and the 419 Squad, who contributed their amazing vocals. Aynzli's style is so fast and so dense and fluid, I think that he's going to have a remarkable career. And what makes the 419 Squad so special is that they go back and forth between Yoruban and English (as they're from Nigeria)."

Geri goes garlic mad

Geri Halliwell is eating huge amounts of garlic to stay healthy on the Spice Girls' world tour.

The 35-year-old singer is determined to keep fit for the group's gruelling schedule and has been consuming a diet packed with the smelly vegetable along with beetroot and carrots.

A source said: "Geri worked so hard to prepare for the tour. The fans mean so much to her and she is scared about letting them down if she were to get ill. She wants to perform to the best of her ability every night."

During the girls' last world tour in 1998, Geri sensationally quit the band halfway through and she is keen to make it up to her bandmates and fans. The mother-of-one has also been doing yoga every day to help her maintain good health.

The source added: "She's very aware that even the slightest hint of a cold could keep her from performing and she has been obsessively saying to people, 'Don't let me get ill.'

"She sees this as the Spice Girls' big chance to restart their careers. She wants to make sure that absolutely nothing goes wrong."

Geri and the other girls - Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C - are currently on the British leg of the world tour, and on Saturday (15.12.07) began their 17-date residency at London's O2 arena.
